4 out of 5 stars Love this camera   February 19, 2010
Eric Miller (Houston, Texas)
I love my Canon Powershot A2000IS! I like it so much that we are now on our third one. The previous two cameras met an early demise having nothing to do with the camera quality...that is unless you count dog chewing resistance as a ratable quality.

I/we are not professional, advanced amateurs or otherwise photographers aspiring to be the next Ansel Adams of the pocket camera class. Therefore, this camera has done everything we have asked, keeping in mind that it isn't a digital SLR. We have taken it hiking, which is convenient because it fits nicely in a pocket and is quite durable. As for the battery life, we use lithium batteries and they last many times longer than the standard alkaline batteries, even when using the flash. I put in an 8 GB memory card and have an essentially unlimited number of pictures along with more than 30-minutes of video time. The picture quality is fantastic.

The only reason I didn't grade this camera as 5 stars is due to the fact that at times it does have a longer than desired recovery time after taking a flash, and the 3-inch display can be a bit challenging to see when outdoors in bright sunlight. I am not sure what is going on inside the camera but at times it will take several seconds after taking a photo before the camera is ready to take the next. This happens very infrequently and has not been a big problem.

Overall I would buy this camera again...and have.

5 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING Price/Value Ratio !!!!   February 17, 2010

Every day they make them more affordable and with more high end features, you can't go wrong with CANON

4 out of 5 stars Only 1 'Real' Negative With It   January 30, 2010

I've owned and used a few other Canon point and shoot cameras. Also own a nice Canon D-SLR. Recently bought the A2000 for leisure use after looking at every other Canon point and shoot within the price range.

Here are the PROS and CONS that I've found so far;

PROS:
- Not too small, not too big. Can still fit in a (guys) pocket pretty easily.
- LARGE screen. 3" is great! Most have 2.5"
- Picture quality. This should be about the most important thing right?!
- Ease of use.
- 6x Optical Zoom. Most cameras are only 3-4x Optical Zoom.

CONS:
#1 CON - LONG delay between pictures. This may mean you miss a pic or two at times....eek!
- Some smaller cameras out there...if that's what you're looking for.
- Using the screen all the time means it's using your batteries quicker (vs. a viewfinder on other cameras)
- Uses 2 AA batteries???...personally this doesn't bother me because I don't have to worry about every buying one of those expensive batteries that come with most other point and shoot cameras down the road. I just bought 4 rechargables and now I'll have battery backups all the time and for A LOT less than the cost of the other batteries.

BOTTOM LINE: Go to the store and take a picture or two with the camera. If the delay between picture taking doesn't bother you and it seems like what you're looking for....buy it. It's really a nice camera for the money besides the delay issue.

4 out of 5 stars Great camera for multi use and video   January 12, 2010
Fishgriller.com (USA)
Canon Powershot A2000IS 10MP Digital Camera

I have been using this camera for my video review and it works as good as most video cameras.

Check out the quality on the review of the Camp Chef SPG-90B Big Gas 3 Sports Grill, Black/Red

I used quality of video to medium to fit the size standards on Amazon.

PROS: Great video quality
Easy to use
Easy to change functions and formats
Uses SD card which are super cheap
No shutter lag, way faster than my HP or Nikon
fits great in my hands

CONS: Battery life is average
small on/off button is hard to push

Overall: Buy one for anyone who needs a good camera for moving objects and doesn't want to buy a separate video camera. I use it on a tripod or just on the fly.

CHECK IT OUT...

5 out of 5 stars Good camera for in-between folks   January 9, 2010
Rebecca C. (TX, USA)
I bought this little guy a year ago because of the 6x optical zoom. As always, Canon makes excellent products that produce excellent quality photos. This camera gave me what the smaller Elf series cameras didn't - lots of optical zoom! It has an "easy mode" that was way too basic so I never used it, as well as an Auto mode and special Program mode. Because I don't like the way flash makes photos look, I would set my P mode to a high ISO and turn off the Flash. Of course, the pictures came out granier the higher I made the ISO, but that's to be expected. I preferred it over having to deal with overexposed camera flashes (I think most compact cameras, at least, produce photos that are overexposed when using flash).

Sadly, I broke it from what I consider a minor drop to the thinly carpeted floor. The body near the shutter button got a crack in it which caused the zoom-out, power button, and flash to stop working. FORTUNATELY I had purchased the accidental damage from handling coverage from the site where I bought the camera (D3LL) and they are sending me a refund. I will not re-purchase this camera, instead I want to try one thats either bigger or smaller, this guy is kind of a hybrid child of sorts, not as easy in the hands as an Elf or a bigger SLR-style camera.

Who is this good for?
Someone who...
-Wants more zoom
-Wants more features to tinker with
-Not for super professional photography enthusiasts (just invest in a super camera)
